Man arrested in slaying of 87-year-old Casselberry man

Victim identified as Wallace Dean Worman; Edward Marrero charged

CASSELBERRY, Fla. – A 23-year-old man has been charged with homicide in connection with the death of an 87-year-old Casselberry man, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said Monday night.
Edward Israel Marrero is suspected of killing Wallace "Wally" Dean Worman, deputies said. Marrero is now jailed in Orange County.
It’s not clear if Worman and Marrero knew one another, or how they were possibly acquainted.

Deputies said Marrero stole Worman's car and used his debt card multiple times.

Worman was found slain Monday morning in unincorporated Casselberry, the Sheriff's Office said earlier in the day.

Deputies said a friend who regularly checks on Worman did not receive a call from him. The friend found Worman's body in his bedroom after going to his home in the Howell Cove neighborhood, deputies said.

"There was a group of friends who checked on this man every single morning," Seminole County Sheriff's Office spokesman Bob Kealing said. "When he did not respond right away, they knew something wasn't right."

Deputies said there were visible signs of trauma to Worman's body. The initial investigation shows that Worman "died a violent death," Kealing said. There was no sign of forced entry into his home.

"(It's) heartbreaking," a neighbor said. "There are no words. What's this world coming to?"

In March, Marrero was released from prison after serving 15 months for aggravated stalking. Since 2012, he's faced more than 30 different criminal charges in Orange County, including burglary, grand theft, battery, robbery, aggravated assault and drug possession.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477) or the Sheriff's Office at 407-665-6650.
