Woman with appointment plows into hair salon, store next door

Vehicle destroys glass storefront, smashes through wall into 2nd business

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman with a hair appointment said she mistook the gas for the brakes as she pulled up to the salon and drove her car into two businesses Friday morning in the Arlington area, salon workers told News4Jax.

The woman's car demolished the glass storefront of a MetroPCS at Merrill Road near Hartsfield Road, and then plowed through the wall connecting the cellphone store to the neighboring Salon 2100, where she had a 12:30 p.m. appointment.

News4Jax was told no one inside the businesses was injured and the woman was not seriously hurt. She was taken to a hospital by firefighters.

Workers described the crash as sounding like two trucks colliding.

Witness Yvette Parissi said she jumped into action as soon as she heard the crash

“I saw that there was an elderly lady in there. I asked her if she was OK. I made sure she didn't hit her head. She was conscious. She was aware of everything that was going on, because she understood what she had done,” Parissi said. “I checked her pulse and her pulse was elevated, but I'm assuming that's because of the adrenaline of what happened.”

Everyone at the salon was a bit shaken up but said they were thankful that no one was seriously hurt.
