Police: Driver flees after woman, 21, dies in New Smyrna Beach crash

New Smyrna Beach police look for driver of Chevy Tahoe

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Authorities are searching for the driver of a vehicle involved in a New Smyrna Beach crash that left a 21-year-old woman dead early Sunday, police said.

Officers said the two-vehicle crash took place at 2 a.m. near the 3200 block of State Road 44 East and caused both vehicles to leave the roadway.

Kaelee Morrell, who was driving one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, police said. 

A passenger in Morrell's vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to Halifax Hospital, officers said.

The driver of the other vehicle, a black 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe, fled the scene of the crash, police said.
