VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 61-year-old man and three cows were killed Friday night in a Volusia County crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Troopers said a man was driving a pickup truck west on State Road 40 near Seymour Road at 11:50 p.m. as the 61-year-old man, identified as Lawrence Allegro, of Enterprise, was driving east.

The driver of the pickup truck hit and killed one of three cows that had gotten out of a fence and was in the road, the FHP said.
Allegro also hit and killed one of the cows, troopers said.
After hitting the animal, the driver of the truck veered off into the eastbound lanes and hit Allegro's car head-on, the Highway Patrol said.
The driver of a semitrailer traveling on SR 40 then struck and killed the third cow, troopers said. It's unknown whether the driver was injured.
Allegro was taken to Halifax Hospital, where he later died, according to the crash report.
Troopers said the man driving the pickup truck suffered minor injuries during the crash.
The Highway Patrol did not say from where the cows had escaped.
Troopers said the crash was still being investigated.
