Man arrested after Waffle House worker stabbed at work, police say

Matthew Diaz faces attempted murder charge

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 29-year-old man was arrested Sunday on attempted first-degree murder charges after stabbing a Waffle House worker, the Orlando Police Department said.

Police said Matthew Diaz, of Orlando, stabbed the victim in the parking lot of the restaurant on South Semoran Boulevard around 2:15 p.m. 

According to police, the victim got into a car when Diaz stepped in front of the vehicle. Diaz then quickly moved to the passenger side, where the victim was seated and stabbed him in the arm and chest, police said.

Diaz fled from the restaurant and was later stopped by officers near the intersection of John Young Parkway and State Road 528, police said.

The victim was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he underwent surger, officers said. His condition is not known.

Diaz also faces charges of aggravated battery with a weapon and burglary of a conveyance with assault or battery.
