New parking garage to open at Orlando International in time for holiday rush

New complex includes tram to main terminal

Parking garage C at Orlando International Airport

ORLANDO, Fla. – A new parking garage and transportation center is set to open at Orlando International Airport just in time for the holidays.

The new South Complex includes trams also known as "automated people movers" to carry passengers back and forth to the main terminal about a mile and a half away in three minutes. It also has a six-story parking garage, called "C", that will hold 2,400 cars, curbside bag drop off and ticket kiosks.

Parking in the C garage will be $15 per day, compared to $17 a day at the A and B garages.

The complex is part of a bigger expansion that will include a third terminal in 2020 to accommodate a record number of passengers. OIA currently has twice as many passengers than it was built to service.

The holidays will add to that congestion. More than 1.7 million passengers will travel through Orlando International during the Thanksgiving holiday. The busiest day will be the Saturday after Thanksgiving with more than 140,000 passengers.

The South Complex and garage C opens Friday at midnight.
