VIDEO: Red Corvette leads Volusia deputies on high-speed chase

Driver still at large

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A suspect in a red Corvette is still on the run after leading deputies on a chase Tuesday through Daytona Beach and the Volusia County Sheriff's Office helicopter, Air One, captured the whole high-speed pursuit.

On Tuesday, the Sheriff's Office narcotics unit made seven arrests while targeting drug activity on the east side of Daytona Beach. Deputies tried to make a traffic stop on Mason Avenue after members of the narcotics unit spotted the red Corvette involved in some suspicious activity. As deputies approached with their lights on, the driver took off at "high rates of speed" almost hitting other vehicles, officials with the Sheriff's Office said.

"Yeah, running through red lights. Oh, he almost T-boned and hit a van," the helicopter pilot said as the Corvette ran through a red light nearly cashing into on coming traffic.

Air One followed the Corvette in the air and deputies followed on the ground as the suspect got onto southbound I-95, then got off on Dunlawton Boulevard. The driver turned into the Lakeside Apartments and bailed out of the car, fleeing on foot, according to the helicopter video.

The man was last seen running toward Dunlawton Avenue. K-9 units attempted to track the man, but were unable to find him.

Deputies found a handgun stolen from Holly Hill, heroin and marijuana in the Corvette.
