Brevard corrections deputy stole money from inmate, officials say

Felicia Brown, 29, arrested on several charges

VIERA, Fla. – A corrections deputy was arrested Friday on suspicion of stealing money from an inmate, Brevard County sheriff's officials said.

Felicia Brown, 29, was arrested on charges of fraudulent use of a credit card, scheme to defraud, petit theft, official misconduct, criminal use of personal information and false entires in books of a business.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, when an inmate is released from the jail, the inmate's funds are returned on a debit card. Deputies said Brown noticed that the money, less than $100, became available and took the debit card for herself, using it at four businesses in the Titusville area.

Brown began working for the Sheriff's Office in December 2013 and was assigned to the Brevard County Jail Complex.

Brown was arrested and immediately fired, officials said. She's being held on a $30,000 bond.
