Orlando pet shelter offers free adoptions on Black Friday

Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando vying for 2,000 adoptions through December

ORLANDO, Fla. – For some, Black Friday wasn't just about hitting the mall; some took home new family members in what was arguably the biggest sale you could get.

"I usually think of flash sales, like, go get TVs or electronics," Austin Young-Crigger, of Kissimmee, said. But people like Young-Crigger and his grandmother, they are taking advantage of as good of a sale as you can get.

From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando offered free pet adoptions.

The Young family took home Coco the dog, avoiding adoption fees that can range anywhere from $50 for a cat to up to $300 for some dogs.

"Well that helped us because we were able to get supplies that the dog needed," Sheila Young said. "Everything from the leash and collar to a kennel for them."

The sale is all part of the shelter's "Adopt-a-thon," as they try to get 2,000 dogs and cats adopted from October through December.

"It's just that holiday," Fraily Rodriguez, vice president of operations, said. "People are in the giving spirit."

While this sale is over, a spokesperson for Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando says there will be other specials throughout this holiday weekend.
