Bartow man, 30, killed in Polk County hit-and-run, deputies say

BARTOW, Fla. – A 30-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash Sunday morning in Bartow, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies said Barry Lee Powell Jr., of Bartow, was walking west on the shoulder of Highway 60, east of Cedar Trail Landfill, around 1:30 a.m. when a westbound vehicle hit him.

Powell was pronounced dead at the scene, the Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities are asking for the public's help in locating a black vehicle with damage to its front passenger side, front headlight assembly and front quarter panel. The make and model of the vehicle were not immediately known, deputies said.

Detectives are also asking any witnesses to call the Sheriff's Office at 863-298-6200.
