Lockdown lifted at Midway Elementary, Galileo School after nearby shooting

1 injured in shooting in nearby Midway neighborhood

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Two Sanford elementary schools were placed on lockdown Friday after reports of a nearby shooting, school officials said.

Midway Elementary School on Brisson Avenue was place on a code yellow lockdown due to law enforcement activity in the area, Seminole County Public Schools spokesman Michael Lawrence said.

A message was sent to parents and guardians of students at Galileo School for Gifted Learning, informing them the school was also placed on lockdown.

The lockdown was later lifted at Midway Elementary, Lawrence said.

Code Yellow means that business is proceeding as usual inside the building, but there is no outside activity until the situation that caused the lockdown has been resolved, according to Galileo School principal Michelle Nunez.

One person was injured in a shooting in the Midway neighborhood, officials with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies said the shooting victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was not cooperating with investigators.
