Search is on for truck occupants after crash closes I-95 in Volusia County

Truck occupants fled into woods after rollover crash, troopers say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Troopers are investigating a crash that shut down northbound Interstate 95 in Volusia County on Thursday.

The crash was reported shortly after 7 p.m. near mile marker 262 and involved a 2001 Ford pickup truck.

Troopers said the crash happened when the driver of the truck entered I-95 from U.S. 92 and lost control of the vehicle.

The truck overturned, and tools, equipment and roofing supplies -- including nails -- spilled onto the interstate. Troopers said five male occupants of the pickup truck fled on foot and have not been found.

No other vehicles were damaged by the debris, troopers said. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

The Daytona Beach Police Department and the Volusia County Sheriff's Office set up a perimeter to look for the occupants. It's unclear why they reportedly fled after the crash.

Officials said debris on the road is causing lane closures and the on-ramp is also closed.
