FRUITLAND PARK, Fla. – A man was found dead Sunday afternoon after authorities worked to make contact with him while he barricaded himself in his Fruitland Park home, Lake County deputies said.

Deputies tweeted about the incident around 11:30 a.m. asking people to avoid going near the intersection of Sunnyside Drive and Lake Unity Road while deputies tried to make contact with the suspect.

Authorities said the man, who has not been identified, barricaded himself in the home after a woman called deputies and said she had been battered by him.

After meeting with the victim in a separate location, deputies went to the man's home and spoke with him at the front gate, authorities said.

Deputies said the suspect started yelling at deputies and was running toward his home when he pulled a handgun from his waistband.

The suspect continued walking back to his home and barricaded himself inside alone, deputies said.

Deputies said around 2:15 p.m. that the man was found dead inside the home from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
