Shooting at Orange County apartment complex leads to standoff

OCSO: Shooting happened at Misty Oaks Apartments

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A shooting outside an Orange County apartment complex led to an hours-long standoff Saturday night.

The shooting happened a little before 7 p.m. at Misty Oaks Apartments on North Hiawasee Road near Colonial Drive.

Guns were drawn and pointed at a unit inside the apartment complex after a man was shot outside, and deputies said the suspect was still inside.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office later said the suspect wasn't inside the apartment and is still at large.

Jermaine Jackson told News 6 his roommate was the man shot.

"Power up the Xbox, put my TV on, 'Pop, pop.' Now that was too close. Let me go check what's going on," Jackson said. "That's where I see him laying there on the floor outside."

Jackson called 911 after his roommate told him a neighbor shot him after an incident between the two men's cars.

"That's called insurance. You call your insurance company. You call the police," Jackson said. "Not a gunshot. Not risking somebody's life over a fender bender. No."

Deputies said the man, identified as Terrance Stewart, was taken to a hospital. He is in stable condition and recovering.

"Officer safety is our No. 1 priority, but we have to get in there at some point to see exactly what took place," said Jeff Williamson, of the Orange County Sheriff's Office. "We have an individual that seems to be fighting for his life, so we're going to do everything we can to figure out what happened in there."

Anyone with any information is asked to call Crimeline or the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

A stretch of North Hiawassee Road was shut down.
