Police seek man wanted in West Melbourne attempted armed robbery

Man has small scar on face

WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. – Police in West Melbourne are looking for a man who they say pretended to buy a grape soda so he could attempt to rob a Dollar Tree on Friday.

Authorities said the man walked into the store in the Hammock Landings Mall around 7:50 p.m. and brought a grape soda to the register along with $2. When the cashier opened the register to accept his payment, he pulled out a knife and told her to give him all the money, according to a news release.

The employee refused and instead told her manager to call the police.

The man fled from the store and left the area on a bicycle, officials said.

He was wearing black jeans and a black shirt, he had no facial hair, a medium build and a small scar on the right side of his face above his lip, according to the report.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact detective Kimberly Weeks at 321-723-9673 or submit a tip through Crimeline by calling 1-800-423-TIPS.
