VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 58-year-old Daytona Beach woman who was directing a driver down a dirt path was struck and killed Tuesday afternoon in Volusia County, troopers said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Marie Tyndal was directing Hugh Bonafield, 56, of Ormond Beach, who was driving a 2000 Honda down a dirt path near the intersection of Avenue K and Oak Street.

Bonafield told troopers he lost sight of Tyndal and struck her with his vehicle. Bonafiled, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured, the FHP said.

Tyndal was pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP said.

Alcohol did not play a role in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
