TITUSVILLE, Fla. – A grandmother was struck by a bullet late Tuesday night after at least 12 shots were fired into her Brevard County home during a drive-by, authorities said.
Young children were also inside the Beth Street house, which is located just north of Titusville, but no one else was injured.
The woman was taken to a hospital but is expected to be OK, officials said.
The shooter and the motive are not known.
News of the shooting surprised neighbors.
"It's heart-wrenching because, I mean, an innocent bystander, that's what's really sad about the whole situation," said Christina Dyer, whose family lives in the neighborhood.
Crime scene investigators spent several hours at the home, which was riddled with bullet holes.
"You see toys, you see that there is a trampoline, you can tell it's a family-oriented home. Why would you come by and shoot up something like that? It's a shame, it really is," Dyer said. "It's terrible, it's terrible that whoever done this didn't even take the heart to think that there's innocent children that live there."
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Sheriff's Office or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
