Man found dead in Fruitland Park after gunshots heard, police say

Victim identified as Pennsylvania man

FRUITLAND PARK, Fla. – A man was found dead inside a Fruitland Park garage after gunshots were reported in the area, police said.

The incident was reported at 11:17 p.m. Tuesday near South Dixie Avenue and Palm Street at a mechanic garage that's not attached to a home.

Investigators identified the victim as a Pennsylvania man, but his name has not been released.

"We have not been able to contact any family members at this point," Fruitland Park police Capt. Erik Luce said.

Police said nearby residents heard about two gunshots and called authorities.

"We don't really have a clear suspect at this point. We are still gathering information from surrounding neighbors." Luce said.

Police believe the apparent shooting was an isolated incident, but some neighbors were on edge.

"Walking to Walmart and seeing this scene is crazy because I have a lot of cousins that walk these roads at night time," said Hollie Smart, who lives nearby. "This is too close to home."

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Fruitland Park police at 352-343-2101.
