Deputies: Man fatally shoots attempted carjacker outside Orlando business

Shooter has concealed weapons permit, deputies say

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man was fatally shot Sunday morning while trying to carjack another man outside a business in Orlando, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said they were called to the Texas Fried Chicken restaurant at 2200 Americana Blvd. just after midnight about a shooting.

When deputies arrived at the restaurant, they found a man, later identified by authorities as Jan Demetri Goodman, 36, suffering from a gunshot wound in the parking lot, according to the Sheriff's Office. Goodman was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he later died, deputies said.

A 49-year-old man at the scene told investigators that the injured man was trying to steal his vehicle and assaulted him as he walked into the business, according to deputies. The 49-year-old told deputies that he shot Goodman as he was being attacked.

Authorities said the 49-year-old has a valid concealed weapons permit.

Deputies said the case remains under investigation.
