Man shoots, kills would-be thief at Orange County ATM, deputies say

Sheriff's officials say shooter has concealed weapons permit

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man with a concealed weapons permit shot and killed a man who was trying to rob him early Tuesday at an ATM in Orange County, deputies said.

The shooting was reported around 2:40 a.m. at a Wells Fargo in the 4500 block of Hoffner Avenue near Conway Road.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said a man in his 60s was at the ATM when a man in his 20s tried to rob him at gunpoint.

Deputies said there was a shootout, and the ATM customer drove away and called 911 before returning to the scene.

The man who was shot was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and later died, deputies said. His name has not been released.

An investigation is ongoing.
