Man shot in head on State Road 408 in Orange County, deputies say

Expressway reopens at Goldenrod Road after hours-long closure

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 21-year-old man was shot twice in the head while on State Road 408 on Thursday evening, according to officials from the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the incident was reported at 6:05 p.m. The victim was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Sky 6 video from over the scene on the East West Expressway showed a white, two-door car -- later identified as a Honda Civic -- on the side of the road with at least one shattered window. Deputies said there were seven apparent bullet holes on the driver's side of the vehicle.

The victim, identified Friday as Craig Arroyo, was found semi-conscious in the driver’s seat by passersby -- and was taken by fire officials to ORMC, deputies said. He underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery, deputies said.

Deputies have not released information on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Westbound SR 408 was closed for hours near Goldenrod Road and heavy delays were reported in the area.

Detectives are looking for witnesses and people who know what prompted the shooting.

Officials also are trying to piece together a vehicle description of the car used by the shooter.

The victim’s vehicle may have been involved in a minor crash prior to the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
