Suspicious death reported near Cocoa Walmart, police say

Officers say no threat to public


COCOA, Fla. – A criminal investigation is underway Friday afternoon near a Walmart on Clear Lake Road in Cocoa after a man possibly in his 50s was found dead in a nearby homeless camp, according to police.

Cocoa Police Department officials said the investigation began around 3:30 p.m. when a man from the homeless camp ran to the parking lot to report the death.

Three people were detained at the scene and are being questioned by authorities, according to a news release.

Police said the circumstances of the man's death are being investigated. He has not been identified.

Authorities said that there is no active threat to the public.
