11-year-old dies after being struck by car in Daytona Beach

Police say driver had right of way


DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – An 11-year-old boy who was struck by a car Saturday in Daytona Beach has died, police said on Monday.

Officials said the boy was crossing Mason Avenue at Clyde Morris Boulevard in Daytona around 9 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle.

The motorist had a green light and the right-of-way, according to officials.

Officers said the driver stopped and waited at the scene.

Police said the child was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in critical condition and underwent surgery, but he died.

The crash is still under investigation and police said they do not anticipate pressing charges.
