Man found dead in burning home near Silver Springs Shores

Cause of fire under investigation

SILVER SPRINGS SHORES, Fla. – A man was killed Tuesday night in a house fire in Marion County, officials said.

At least one other person escaped the blaze, which broke out around 9:30 p.m. on Brook Lane near Silver Springs Shores.

Marion County Fire Rescue said the home was 50 percent engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

"Firefighters made entry, an immediate entry into the home, and found the heavy fire load in the bedrooms." said James Lucas, spokesman for Marion County Fire Rescue.

Lucas said firefighters went inside through the back of the home after hearing that there was a man inside.

"Firefighters fought back the flames while rescue workers went in to do a primary search on the structure and, unfortunately, they made contact with the patient and declared him deceased." Lucas said.

The man's body was found in the bathroom, fire officials said.

It took firefighters about 10 minutes to put out the flames.

The victim's name and age have not been released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
