Man dead after vehicle goes into Orange County retention pond, officials say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A man is dead after a vehicle he was in went into a retention pond Friday, officials said.

43-year-old Luis Melendez Morales died after his vehicle was submerged in the water at Isle of Wright Drive and Black Heath Circle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol's crash report.

Troopers said the crash involves a vehicle that was heading west on Isle Of Wright Drive, left the roadway, struck a bench and then entered a retention pond.

The vehicle is completely submerged, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Orange County Fire Rescue personnel said crews were in the pond searching for any possible victims. One diver and two rescue swimmers were in the water.

The crash remains under investigation, troopers said.
