Sen. Susan Collins: 'I will vote to confirm judge Kavanaugh'

Nomination advanced 51-49

WASHINGTON – Republican Sen. Susan Collins, of Maine, said Friday afternoon she will vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Collins said that although she does believe Christine Blasey Ford is a survivor of sexual abuse, the FBI's investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct made against Kavanaugh did not reveal any reason to believe he was the one who assaulted Ford.

For that reason, Collins said she does not feel the allegations should prevent Kavanaugh from serving on the Supreme Court.

Before her announcement Friday afternoon, she was considered to be a swing vote in Kavanaugh's nomination.

The Senate voted 51-49 on Friday to advance Kavanaugh's nomination to a final vote. With the debate now over, the Senate is expected to vote on whether to confirm Kavanaugh on Saturday.

Collins was one of the senators who voted to advance Kavanaugh's nomination Friday morning.
