Sheriff candidate posts fake Trump tweets to Facebook

Darryl Sheppard says tweets looked real

ORLANDO, Fla. – A candidate for Orange County sheriff is being accused of posting fake tweets to his Facebook page.

Democrat Darryl Sheppard posted two tweets meant to look like they were from President Donald Trump.

One tweet says that Trump endorses Orlando police Chief John Mina.

However, the president has not commented on the race for Orange County sheriff and didn't send out the tweets.

Sheppard told News 6 that someone sent him the messages and since they looked real, he posted them on his Facebook page.

Mina responded to controversy. He called the post a "desperate and sad attempt to seek attention."
