Intruder shot during fierce fight in Orange County home, deputies say

Deputies investigate home invasion near Gotha

GOTHA, Fla. – An intruder was shot late Wednesday in a fierce struggle with a resident during an Orange County home invasion, sheriff's deputies said.

The home invasion shooting was reported at 11:42 p.m. on Furlong Way near Gotha.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the 26-year-old victim said someone entered his home and a struggle ensued.

The victim said he fiercely fought with the suspect, who was armed with a handgun, which fired and struck the intruder, according to deputies.

The 26-year-old climbed through a side window and called for help from a nearby home, officials said.

The intruder was found lying on the floor with serious injuries, deputies said. The intruder was taken to a hospital for treatment, officials said.

The 26-year-old was not injured.

No other details have been released.
