TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – With the 407 area code expected to run out of available numbers late next year, the Florida Public Service Commission announced Tuesday that Central Florida phone numbers will be getting a third area code: 689.
Currently 407 serves Orange, Osceola, Seminole and parts of Lake and Volusia counties. The area code 321, originally for Brevard County, also serves other Central Florida counties.

According to the North American Numbering Administrator, phone numbers with the 407 area code are expected to run out in the third quarter of 2019.
Starting in June, the new 689 area code will be used for Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and parts of Lake and Volusia counties.
The Florida Public Service Commission plans to spend the next seven months educating the public about the new area code.
