Florida GOP top brass picked to lead Governor-elect Ron DeSantis transition

ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida's governor-elect is picking some top brass of the Florida GOP to lead his transition team.

Ron DeSantis said Wednesday that U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, Florida House Speaker Richard Corcoran, former Lt. Gov. Toni Jennings and former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux will chair the transition team.

The campaign's chair, Susie Wiles, will serve as executive director and DeSantis' former chief of staff, Scott Parkinson, will be deputy executive director.

DeSantis defeated Democratic Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum on Tuesday and thanked the president for his support. President Donald Trump backed DeSantis in the primary and helped him cruise to victory.

Trump rallied with DeSantis twice in the last six days before Tuesday's election to help erase a slim lead Gillum had in the polls.

Gillum was hoping to become Florida's first black governor and the first Democrat elected governor since 1994.

Republicans will enter their third decade of having complete control of Florida's Capitol when DeSantis takes office in January.
