Pedestrian fatally struck by semitruck on Orange Blossom Trail, officials say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a semitruck Thursday evening in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 7:20 p.m. at Wetherbee Road and Orange Blossom Trail.

The semitruck was heading west on Wetherbee Road. Officials said the pedestrian was attempting to cross Orange Blossom Trail within a crosswalk from the east side of the road to the west side.

The driver of the semitruck had a green light, according to witnesses. Officials said as the vehicle made a right turn to travel north onto Orange Blossom Trail, the front-right end of the semitruck ran over the pedestrian.

The pedestrian died at the scene, officials said.

The semitruck continue to head north on Orange Blossom Trail. Officials said a witness flagged down the semitruck north of the crash scene.

The driver of the semitruck told troopers that he did not know he struck a person, officials said.

Charges are pending against the driver of the semitruck, according to the FHP's report. The crash remains under investigation.
