Student brings switchblade knife to Umatilla High School, deputies say

Officials say student admitted to bringing knife when confronted


UMATILLA, Fla. – A student at Umatilla High School was arrested Friday after he brought a switchblade knife to school, according to officials from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the 18-year-old student was seen showing the knife to another student while on campus. It is unclear if the student threatened anyone.

According to the student's arrest report, the school's assistant principal and a deputy pulled the student into an empty classroom and asked him if he had anything he was not allowed to have on campus. The report states that he admitted to bringing the switchblade in his backpack.

The student was charged with bringing a weapon onto school grounds. He was released from the Lake County Jail on $2,000 bond.
