Deputies investigating possible dog poisoning in Minneola

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – The Lake County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible animal cruelty case after a woman said her neighbor poisoned her dog after a dispute with her husband about tree trimmings.

"I'm heartbroken," said Bryan Pressler, the woman's husband. "It's just a shame, an absolute, horrific, senseless shame."

Deputies responded to All Care Animal Hospital in Minneola on Monday, where the owner of a 6-year-old Labrador retriever named Cassidy had brought the dog.

According to the animal hospital, the dog's symptoms indicated she had been poisoned. The dog was foaming at the mouth, vomiting and bleeding from the mouth before she collapsed.

"It was tortuous," Pressler added. "She howled, she moaned, I have never seen the images that were so sad, it was just a horrific nightmare."

Not only was it a nightmare for Pressler who took the dog to the vet, but it's a loss for his 12-year-old daughter. Pressler said Cassidy served as an emotional support dog for his daughter.

"My daughter has bouts of anxiety and has treatment for it and that was her back-up buddy," he said. "She is an emotional wreck."

Blood work will determine if the dog was poisoned, according to the report.

The dog's owner said she had been involved in a dispute on Saturday about trimming a tree on the side of her house that runs up against a neighbor's property. She said the neighbor threatened her, saying she "will pay for this," and that she "didn't know what they has started," according to the report.
The owner said another neighbor's dog was poisoned about a year ago.

The Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident. No charges have been filed.

"I'm not going to give up. I want justice for my dog, my family, this community. This is just unacceptable," Pressler added.
