Orlando City Soccer Club founding owner killed in Indiana plane crash

The founder of Orlando City Soccer Club, Wayne Estopinal, died in a plane crash on Friday, according to a statement released by the team.

Estopinal was traveling in a private plane to Chicago from a small airport in Clark County, Indiana, CBS Chicago reports. The plane crashed in a heavily wooded area near Memphis, Indiana, according to reports. Estopinal and the other two people on board, who have not been identified, were pronounced dead.

In the Orlando City statement, the team said Estopinal was one of the first to dream of bringing Major League Soccer to Central Florida. He was also the founder of Louisville Soccer Club in Kentucky.

"He will be deeply missed, but his impact on the Orlando City organization and American soccer will be felt for years to come," the statement said.
