Band trailer stolen from Spruce Creek High School

Police search for person or people responsible

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – Port Orange police are searching for the person responsible for stealing a new 28-foot trailer from Spruce Creek High School.

At 11:14 p.m. Saturday, investigators said, a white pickup truck entered the school parking lot. About five minutes later, the vehicle was seen being driven away with the trailer attached.

Band director Robert Bosma said the band's fundraising efforts had just resulted in the purchase of the trailer this school year.

"We got it about a month ago and it was meant to replace an old trailer that we had had for about 15 to 20 years," Bosma said. "It's really frustrating and it's hurtful because ultimately, they are really just stealing from kids."

Investigators said the trailer was parked behind a gated fence. Officers said they found two pieces of cut chain at the scene.

Bosma wants to get results for his students by making everyone aware that they need to be on the lookout for the stolen trailer.

"The students, I think they are hurt (and) discouraged, just knowing that someone would do that to us," he said. "But we are focusing on our next performance."

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Port Orange police.
