Man, 65, in critical condition after being shot on own doorstep, police say

Shooting occurred Saturday on SW 30th Street in Ocala

OCALA, Fla. – A 65-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot on his front doorstep early Saturday morning, according to officials from the Ocala Police Department.

Officers said the shooting occurred just before 2 a.m. on the 3000 block of Southwest 30th Street in Ocala. The victim had just returned home from work, according to police.

Authorities said the victim is stable but in the intensive care unit.

The victim's friend, Tommy Pro, described him as a nice man who would give anyone the shirt off of his back.

"I pray Lord that you will look after him and bring him home safe because we love him and we care about him," Pro said.

Pro believes he was a random victim. He issued a word of warning to the shooter.

"I would recommend that he would turn himself in if he's any kind of man because he's going to get caught," Pro said.

Officials are interviewing neighbors and continue to investigate the shooting. They're asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the department at 352-369-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 352-368-7867.
