Pedestrian dies after being hit by vehicle in Lake Mary

No crosswalk, intersection where victim attempted to cross road, FHP says

LAKE MARY, Fla. – A 70-year-old man died after he was hit by a vehicle in Lake Mary on Monday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said the victim, James Apicella, 70, of Lake Mary, was attempting to cross International Parkway around 6:20 p.m. when walked directly into the path of a BMW.

FHP officials said the victim was walking in an area of the street that did not have a crosswalk or intersection when he was struck.

The victim was taken to an area hospital, where he died.

Troopers said the crash remains under investigation.
