Multiple people injured in four-vehicle crash on Colonial Drive

Driver who caused crash has no valid license, troopers say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Multiple people were injured in a four-vehicle crash on Colonial Drive Thursday afternoon, according to Orange County Fire Rescue.

The crash happened at the intersection of Colonial Drive and Good Homes Road at 4:13 p.m.

Firefighters said that of the seven people injured, five were taken to area hospitals for treatment. Officials said three of those people suffered serious injuries; two children were among the injured but suffered less serious injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol said that Chawanda Canady, 50, was driving a Kia eastbound on Colonial Drive when she changed lanes and hit a Chevrolet van.

The impact caused the Kia to hit a Ford SUV, which then overturned, according to the report.

Troopers said the Kia continued to travel into the westbound lanes of Colonial Drive, where it hit a pickup truck.

Canady suffered serious injuries, while the other drivers suffered minor injuries. Two children who were in the SUV were taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, the report said.

Sky 6 video from the scene showed a black sedan with its roof completely missing and a white vehicle overturned.

Troopers said Canady was ticketed for driving on a suspended license, having no insurance and for failing to maintain a single lane.
