Calling all Galentines: Here's where to shop high-end fashion for fraction of price

Galentine's Day event gives back to community

ORLANDO, Fla. – Valentine's Day is almost here, and if you want to treat yourself to a good bargain, there's a special one day-only event where you'll find high-end brands at more than half off their original prices.

It's a unique "Galentine's Day" event, which is basically a day for girls to have fun shopping.

The best part is, you get to help Goodwill in the process.

"Really, it's just a day before Valentine's Day to spend it with your girlfriends, to spent it with friends and kind of appreciate each other," Adrienne Gonzalez, the e-commerce manager for Goodfinds, said.

On that day only, Goodfinds, the online store for Goodwill, will host its first Galentine's Day party.
On Wednesday, shoppers will get a chance to buy high-end handbags, shoes and even jewelry.

"We have all designer brands. They're authenticated to the best of our abilities. A lot of these items in a retail store would be well over $150. We have it at a reasonable price," Gonzalez said.

Goodwill's online store launched in 2018 to showcase and sell some of the brand name items the company receives every day in donations. The money they make goes right back into the community.

"Ninety cents to every dollar, goes back to our mission. So not only can you come and have a good time at a pop-up shop and celebrate with your friends, but you can also give back to the community at the same exact time," Gonzalez said.

Doris Fuentes is among the thousands of people who got results thanks to Goodwill.

Seven years ago, Fuentes left Cuba, where she was an accountant. Once in the U.S., she worked two jobs to pay for English classes and college.

"You become a baby again. You have to learn the language. You have to learn the culture," Fuentes said.

Four years ago, she applied for a clerk position at Goodwill in Central Florida and got it.

"That is when everything changed," Fuentes said.

Soon after, she was able to focus on one job and continue her education.

Last year, her dream came true. Fuentes graduated with honors and earned her degree in accounting.

Today, she is part of the team that lists and puts the price on all the high-end items found on the website.

She said none of this would have been possible without Goodwill's tuition reimbursement program.

"Our mission is building lives that work. We were there to provide that opportunity for her and really, I've seen her personally grow," Gonzalez said.

"Now that I have my education, I can show everything that I can do. Nothing like this would be possible without education," Fuentes said.

Goodwill gets results through programs for people who need help writing a resume or looking for a job, by offering services that are completely free.

The Galentine's Day pop-up shop isn't just for women. If you're a guy looking to find a nice gift for that special someone, you can also take advantage of the party.

The event is open to the public from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at 1030 Crews Commerce Parkway in Orlando.
