Tourists robbed at gunpoint at Orlando Days Inn, deputies search for suspects

Victims' phones, wallets, credit cards, cash and passports were taken

ORLANDO, Fla. – Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff's Office need the public's help in identifying robbery suspects caught on video mugging two tourists in a hotel elevator.

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies said the incident happened at 11:40 p.m. at the Orlando Days Inn on the 2500 block of West 33rd Street.

Investigators said two tourists visiting from Brazil had just checked in and were heading to their room when some perpetrators ambushed them in the elevator.

“They demanded their belongings, they took phones, passports, cash, wallets and then they fled in a vehicle,” Cpl. Rosa Silva said.

Daliyn Jiles and his family arrived in Orlando on Sunday from Columbus, Georgia and checked into the hotel Monday night. Jiles said he was stunned to hear what happened.

“It’s crazy because we actually got a room last night, we were using the elevator so that could’ve been us, so that is crazy,” Jiles said.

Surveillance video captured a suspect and an image of the getaway vehicle. Alayia Jiles said she is grateful she was spared.

“For something like that to happen, I’m glad I wasn’t anywhere nearby, that would’ve been me also,” Jiles said.

Deputies said no one was injured during the crime. Staff at Days Inn declined to comment on the incident.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect is asked to call police at 800-423-8477.
