Troopers said Carlos Aguiar, 29, was driving a Ford pickup truck eastbound on State Road 44 when for an unknown reason he drifted into the westbound lanes.

A Toyota pickup truck swerved to try to avoid the crash but the two trucks still collided, the report said. The Toyota pickup truck came to a rest on the shoulder.

Aguiar's Ford then hit a Chevrolet pickup truck head-on and both vehicles caught fire, according to authorities. A 2005 Ford pickup truck hit Aguiar's truck then a fifth vehicle, a Chevrolet, hit the Ford pickup truck.

Aguiar and the driver of the Toyota pickup truck were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment. Troopers said two others were treated for less severe injuries.

State Road 44 was shut down at Huff Road, County Road 44A and County Road 46A following the crash, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
