Authorities said the altercation began hours before the shooting at Gore Liquor Store when Davis confronted his former girlfriend and her boyfriend, Willie Carl Griffin Jr.

Surveillance video showed Davis trying to get into the woman's vehicle as he argued with her and pushing Griffin during an altercation inside the store, according to the report.

The woman initially told investigators that Davis brandished a gun during the incident, but surveillance video proved otherwise, authorities said.

Police said all three people were in the Randall Street area when another altercation broke out. Witnesses said they saw Davis hit his former girlfriend, according to the report.

A witness pulled Davis away from the woman, and that's when Griffin removed a black handgun from his waistband and shot Davis, authorities said.

Police said Griffin continued to shoot Davis after he was on the ground then got into his girlfriend's vehicle and fled the scene.

None of the witnesses reported seeing Davis with a gun or any other weapon.

Griffin, 30, was arrested Wednesday on a first-degree murder charge.
