ORLANDO, Fla. – A man tried to kill his 4-year-old daughter Tuesday night by suffocating her, Orange County sheriff's deputies said.
According to an incident report, Michael Dublin, 28, was arrested on charges of attempted murder and aggravated child abuse in connection with the incident, which occurred in the 7400 block of Pomelo Drive in Tangelo Park, south of Orlando.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to a home and found the girl unresponsive "as a result of suffocation." She was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital in critical but stable condition.
The incident report said the girl was at a home with her grandmother, uncle and cousins when her father arrived.
The cousins, whose ages were not released, told the victim's uncle that Dublin was sitting on his daughter, but the uncle said he thought they were playing around, according to the incident report. The uncle said he then saw one of the cousins holding the 4-year-old, who was lifeless, the report stated.
The cousins said Dublin also smothered the girl with a pillow, the incident report stated.
The girl's grandmother performed CPR on her until emergency workers arrived, officials said.
A bottle containing bleach was also found at the home, but it's not known if Dublin made her consume it, officials said.
The incident report said Dublin was emotionless and asked first responders if he was going to jail.
The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified about the incident, and an investigation is ongoing.
In July 2018, the victim's aunt filed paperwork to get custody of the girl, saying Dublin had been incarcerated and developed mental health issues, documents show.
