Boater safe after making distress call during storm, Coast Guard says
Vessel had been reported missing east of Port Canaveral
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A boater who made a distress while more than 10 miles off Port Canaveral during a storm Sunday made if home safely, the Coast Guard said.
Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Command Center watchstanders received the distress call at 4 p.m. from a boater stating he was caught in a storm and needed assistance.
Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and a Station Port Canaveral 45-foot Response Boat-Medium searched for the boat but later said the man called around 1 a.m. to say he had made it home.
