Driver escapes after car crashes into Orange County pond

The driver is OK

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Crews jumped into action after a car lost control and went underwater near the Orlando Executive Airport.

Around 5:09 p.m. Monday, the car went into a pond near Gear Lake Avenue and Fairgreen Street.

Eliezer Alejandro said the poor weather conditions was one of the factors in the crash.

Alejandro said he lost control of his vehicle driving down Fairgreen Street and crashed through a fence near Gear Lake Avenue.

"I thought the tires were going to be more meaty but it's been raining a lot and I've been getting a lot of puddles lately," Alejandro said.

"It wasn't that scary until I realized I couldn't turn any more to be honest with you," he said.

He said water started pouring into his vehicle.

"I busted the passenger door and got out, that was it," he said.

Orlando police said speed was a factor in the crash.

Alejandro did not require any medical attention.
