Chuluota shooting suspect in custody after standoff

Kevin Troy Swadling faces attempted murder charge

CHULUOTA, Fla. – A 47-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on attempted murder charges in connection with a shooting in Chuluota, sheriff's officials said.

Kevin Troy Swadling was arrested in the shooting, which was reported around 1:20 p.m. in the 100 block of East 7th Street.

The Seminole County Sheriff's Office said Swadling shot Ray Thornton, his 32-year-old stepson, who was found lying in a road.

Thornton, who was shot in the shoulder, was taken to a hospital for treatment, officials said.

Swadling was arrested after an hours-long SWAT standoff.
