5 killed in wrong way collision on I-275, troopers say

All five died in the Sunday morning crash.

According to a report, 21-year-old Jobin Joy Kuriakose (pictured above) was driving down I-275 with passengers Ankeet Harshad Patel, 22, Dammie Yesudhas, 21, and Imityaz Ilias, 20. Another vehicle, driven by a man who has yet to be identified, collided head-on with Kuriakose's car in the center lane just north of the Busch Boulevard exit.

The vehicle driven by the unidentified man subsequently caught fire and became engulfed. That driver died at the scene of the crash and has not been identified.

Kuriakose, Patel, Ilias and Yesudhas, also sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene of the crash. They were all students at the University of South Florida.

"From our fraternity our prayers go out, these were great guys they meant a lot to us. Meant a lot to our chapter," said Jigar Patel, USF Sigma Beta Rho Fraternity Alumni Advisor.

Patel and Yesudhas were both from Melbourne and Kuriokose was from Orlando.

USF is offering grief counseling to students.

"Our hearts are heavy at the loss of such bright, energetic and optimistic young people who had promising futures ahead of them; to have their lives cut tragically short betrays our sense of fairness and security," said USF President Judy Genshaft. "Now is the time when our faith and the support of those closest to us can sustain us, and should in tribute to their spirit of friendship and brotherhood."

A call for donations for the families of the students raised nearly $50,000 in just two days.

The school's Sigma Beta Rho chapter will conduct an on-campus memorial service on Thursday.
