3 found dead after Orlando apartment fire

Dozens forced from homes; 1 treated for smoke inhalation

ORLANDO, Fla. - Three people were found dead early Tuesday after a fire that ripped through an Orlando apartment complex, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Details about the victims, including their ages, were not released.

The blaze was reported around 3:30 a.m. at the Misty Oaks apartments near West Colonial Drive and Hiawassee Road.

Dozens were forced from their homes and four units were damaged by fire.

Witnesses said flames were shooting 30 feet into the air before firefighters extinguished the blaze.

One man was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation, but he was expected to be OK, fire officials said.

Family members tell Local 6 three people, including two children, were pronounced dead inside the home. One of the relatives says an aunt and her two nephews, both under 10 years old, didn't make it out of the fire.

"She loved them. She loved them. One of them she's a godmother," the relative told Local 6, adding that the boys' mother was visiting family in Haiti and left her sons with her sister.

The state fire marshal will investigate the cause of the fire.

The Red Cross offered to help 11 families, since at one point power had been cut to the whole building, which included 12 units.
