3 Lake County schools cleared after bomb threats

South Lake High, Clermont Middle, Gray Middle schools evacuated

GROVELAND, Fla. – Investigators with the Lake and Seminole County Sheriff's offices are trying to determine if school bomb threats made in both counties could be related.

It comes after three schools were evacuated in Lake County Monday and eight schools were evacuated in Seminole County Friday due to bomb threats.

The schools were all cleared and no bombs were found. In Lake County, the calls all came through the school's office.

After a cursory look at the incidents in both counties, investigators do not believe the same person made the threats in both counties, but they say it's too soon to know for sure.

Gray Middle School in Groveland was evacuated because of the third threat, the Lake County Sheriff's Office said around 12:20 p.m.

Earlier, the Lake County Sheriff's Office said a bomb threat was reported at Clermont Middle School.  Deputies and Clermont police officers investigated the threat before clearing the school.

Lake County Schools said all students and staff were safely removed the buildings.  Video from Sky 6 showed students re-entering the school during the noon hour.

The threat at Clermont Middle occurred hours after students and staff were evacuated from South Lake High School in Groveland.

School officials said students were taken to the school's football field.

"The threat made this morning at South Lake High has been resolved," the Lake County Sheriff's Office said.  "Law enforcement has cleared the school. Students are returning to their fifth-period class, where pizza is available."

Just  before 2 p.m., Lake County school officials said all schools were back to normal.

"We utilized school resource deputies, patrol deputies, our bomb squad and the assistance of the Clermont and Groveland police departments to search the schools," the Lake County Sheriff's Office said.  " A bomb detection dog was also utilized during the searches."

Detectives continue to investigate the source of the threats.

Anyone with information about the bomb threats is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.

The Lake County threats come three days after Seminole County evacuated several elementary schools because of bomb threats.
