Substance later determined to be antifreeze, officials say

CLERMONT, Fla. – At least four students in Lake County were hospitalized after a substance leaked on their school bus Tuesday.

Lake County School District officials said the bus was headed to East Ridge Middle School in Clermont when the leak took place around 9 a.m. and students on board reported seeing steam.

The bus driver pulled over not far from the school and called EMS to the scene, county officials said.

Of the 37 students on board, three were taken to nearby hospitals after complaining of nausea, school district officials said. Another student was later taken to the hospital by their parent, according to the school district.

All were in stable condition, officials said.

Lake County officials said the unknown substance was later determined to be antifreeze.

Lake County Fire Rescue, the Clermont Fire Department and the Lake County Sheriff's Office were also called to the scene.
